Basics - for beginners

Types of solder

  • 60/40 22 gauge (.032") leaded wire solder is the generally recommended standard for electronics - especially for beginners. More experienced solderers tend to have different types of wire for different situations. Stay away from acid core solder (primarily used for plumbing), as this can damage electronics.
